The Teachers Lobby the Kenya National Union of Teacher KNUT early today afternoon came out to say that they have reunited with the employer after years of estranged relations.
Speaking at the Union Headquarters in Nairobi early today afternoon Union spokesperson and secretary general Mr. Collins Oyuu said that ever since they took over as National officials over a year ago their core mandate was to make amends with the employer, the Teachers Service Commission TSC.
” For the one year that we have been in office we have been able to establish a cordial relationship with the employer TSC and between 7th and 9th July we were able to convenes a retreat with the TSC in NAIVASHA to deliberate on various issues affecting teachers”, Said Collins Oyuu during the press conference.
Among the issues discussed during the retreat included matters of promotion of teachers, delocalization of teachers, job evaluation, TPD policy, Mentorship and Coaching Policy, Teacher Discipline which the Union said should be deliberated further.
The Teachers Service Commission has since rolled out a policy geared towards the promotion of teachers which was based on the 2017-2021 Comprehensive Bargaining Agreement signed between the employer TSC and KNUT. The Union officials however argued that the new policy should not disfranchised teachers who have enhanced their academic qualifications.
