STANCHART BANK OFFERS TO WALK WINNER TO ANFIELD STADIUM

Nairobi Tuesday 25th February 2020… The battle for the trip to Anfield, home of Liverpool FC, kicks off on 14th March 2020 when more than 40 teams converge at St Mary’s grounds for the five-a-side StanChart Trophy soccer tournament.

The annual event will see the winners gain direct qualification to the international round in Liverpool, to be played at Liverpool FC’s home ground Anfield, in May 2020.

Speaking during the official launch of this year’s edition, Standard Chartered Bank CEO, Kariuki Ngari, said, “The tournament has grown in leaps and bounds to become an instrumental tool for both engagement and motivation of our partners as well as employees.”

“We are cognizant of the contribution of sports in promoting a strong culture and will endeavour to make this tournament much more attractive with lifetime experiences,” he added.

At stake is a fully paid up trip to Anfield, the home of Premier League giants Liverpool FC. The winners will travel to the UK for a fully paid 4-day trip to represent Kenya at the Standard Chartered Trophy Finals, which will be played at Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC on 10th May 2018. In addition, the winning team will attend an English Premier League match when Liverpool take on Chelsea at Anfield and will benefit from a professional training session with Liverpool FC legends and coaches to help prepare for the final tournament.

The tournament has continued to grow in popularity as more corporates eye an opportunity to travel to Anfield making it very competitive. Last year, a total of 51 team were hosted. The continued interest has been instrumental in improving standards of the tournament.

Last year, Letshego emerged winners of the Road to Anfield tournament after beating Capital FM 3-2 in post-match penalty shootouts having drawn one-all during the normal time.

In Kenya, the first 5 aside football tournament –The Road to Anfield– was launched in 2013 to celebrate the sponsorship of Liverpool Football Club and give a once in a life time experience to clients and media partners. Standard Chartered Bank has been the main sponsor of Liverpool FC since 2010 and extended its sponsorship of Liverpool FC for another four years taking the partnership through to May 2023.
