Nairobi, October 13, 2023 – Lifebuoy has launched the H for Handwashing Games, ahead of Global Handwashing Day (GHD) this Sunday. In collaboration with Imagimake, Lifebuoy’s H for Handwashing Games are designed to captivate and engage young minds, by combining the power of play with the importance of hand hygiene. The collection of games includes four board games that have been reimagined to encourage children to learn and practice handwashing with soap while they play. The H for Handwashing Games, developed to address post-pandemic hygiene fatigue, comes at a critical time when handwashing rates have been on a decline. The alarming decrease in handwashing rates could potentially result in a higher number of children falling ill due to preventable infections and diseases. Lifebuoy recognizes the pressing need to combat hygiene, and fatigue and reinvigorate handwashing habits, particularly among children. The H for Handwashing Games is a direct response to this need, providing an engaging and interactive solution to educate and inspire children to practice proper hand hygiene consistently. “We launch Lifebuoy’s first-ever ‘H for Handwashing Games Kit’, a collection of four board games and other local games creatively designed to teach kids about handwashing while they play. We believe that handwashing with soap is a natural and interactive experience. We are sparking a movement of accelerating handwashing behaviour change among children with the simple intention of integrating hand hygiene education into school curricula locally and across the world,” says Luck Ochieng, CEO, Unilever Kenya. “Through this approach, we not only promoting their health and well-being but also empowering children to become advocates of good hygiene practices. This launch marks Unilever’s commitment to drive transformational change for communities and children to prevent diseases through improved sanitation as well as empowering them with skills to become self-confident.” Additionally, Unilever Kenya has donated over 200,000 pieces of Lifebuoy soap to various schools and learners’ institutions across the country during the launch of H for Handwashing Games. The H for Handwashing Games are a collection of four reimagined boardgames including “Germs & Ladders”, “Handwashing Ludo”, “Soap-Tac-Toe” and “Lose the Germs”. These four games will be included as part of a limited-edition kit that will be made available to children aged between 2 to 6 years at Kidogo Centre, Kangemi.
