The East Africa Business Council EABC, the apex body of Private Sector Associations and Corporates organizations and whose mission is to drive the East Africa Integration Agenda through promotion of trade and Investment in the Region early today morning in partnership with Trademark East Africa TMEA, organized a two- day event with various business representatives and stakeholders within the East Africa Region to discuss how to improve the quality of Flora and Fauna produced for regional and international exports markets.

Dubbed Consultative Engagement on the Implementation of the East Africa Community Sanitary and Phytosanitary protocol the meeting sought to resolve a number of challenges prevalent in the East Africa Community affecting cross border multilateral trade on Plant and Animal products. These to include: Trans-boundary animal diseases such as foot and Mouth, Weak identifiability and traceability of the origin of animals, Avian Influenza, re-emergence of H1N1 Swine Flu, presence of veterinary drug residue in beef, dioxins in eggs and poultry meat. Aflatoxins in Milk, Animal feeds, pulses, nuts, cereals, grains and spices as the Sanitary and Phytosanitary issues hampering partner states access to regional and International Markets.

According to Article 151 of the EAC Treaty which came into force after its ratification by Tanzania in 2021, partner states are required to harmonize sanitary and Phytosanitary measures for pest and diseases control.
