Chief Justice Maraga To Retire By Midnight Tonight Upon Attainment of 70 years

The President of the Supreme Court of Kenya and Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya Justice David K. Maraga is expected to hand over the reigns of power to his deputy Justice Philomena Mwilu later today.
According to the Constitution of Kenya 2010 Article 167 sub-article (1) a judge of the High Court or Chief Justice is expected to resign from either of the offices upon attainment of the age of 70years.

Justice David K. Maraga was born in on 12th January 1951, at the age of 26 years he was later admitted as advocate of the High Court on 16th October 1978 and later served as Judge of the High Court between October 2003 and 2011. David K Maraga would later be appointed as Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya on 19th October 2016 and has served in the position to date.
Justice K Maraga perhaps will be known for the controversial nullification of the 2017 Presidential elections pitting President Uhuru Kenyatta and Arch-rival Raila Omollo Odinga and most recently his advisory opinion to the president Uhuru Kenyatta Urging him to dissolve parliament for failure to achieve gender parity in parliament (Two-thirds Gender rule) a provision in the Constitution calling for gender parity in constitutional offices.
